Exhibition, Oral History & Publication

1948 was the last time the Olympics was held in London. The contrast is stark; London was recovering from war, athletes weren’t paid, were training on rations whilst working full-time and most had to hand sew their own kits….. During the past few years, I have been meeting with, photographing and recording interviews with the British Olympic Team from the 1948 Olympics.

The project includes: Audrey Beever (Gymnastics), Cathy Brown (Swimming), Edwin Bowey (Wrestling), Jimmy McColl (Football), John Peake (Hockey), John & Dorothy Parlett (Athletics), Tommy Godwin (Cycling), Gordon Thomas (Cycling), Dame Mary Glen-Haig (Fencing), Donald Scott (Boxing), Dorothy Tyler (Athletics), George Weedon (Gymnastics), Roy Romain (Swimming), Ron Cooper (Boxing), Denise St Aubyn Hubbard (High Diving).

The images and audio will be part of an exhibition at Hackney Museum from 29 May – 20 October 2012, and the exhibition will be showing at Luton Airport during May and June 2012.
